In March 2026, students from multiple schools and universities spent a weekend at Mercer Airfield disassembling a twin-engine Beechcraft Duchess under a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.
Most people don’t get near this kind of work until they’re in the industry. The Duchess was being stripped for parts to keep a fleet of other aircraft flying, so the work had a real purpose.
Students completed a health and safety induction before starting and produced progress reports for the certifying authorities. Secondary and university students worked alongside each other throughout the weekend.
Weather permitting, there is also a flight in a GA aircraft or microlight.
