Following the success of the Savannah microlight build, One Foot In The Clouds ran a camp at Mercer Airfield where students disassembled a twin-engine Beechcraft Duchess. The aircraft is being used for parts to keep a fleet of other aircraft flying.
Students came from Rosmini College, Carmel College, St Peter’s College, Rutherford College, the University of Auckland, and AUT — a mix of secondary and tertiary students working together on the same airframe.
The camp was supervised by a registered Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. Students completed a comprehensive Health and Safety induction and will produce progress reports for the certifying authorities as the programme develops.
The aim is to expand into a range of training programmes at Rosmini College, working with groups across the aviation community on home-built aircraft projects.
